Hey there Rebels, I’m sure one of the biggest questions on your collective minds coming out of Lore’s post is “How do we get our hands on this new stuff?” To answer that question we need to talk about a major overhaul we have planned for events.
Starting in March we will be introducing a new “season” model to the events in Vega Conflict. Each season will last roughly two months, with each faction getting, at least, one new hull and weapon every season. Over the 8 week season, each weekend will feature one of 6 core events and 2 PvP or seasonal events, depending on the calendar.
Each of the 3 new hulls to be available in the first event of the season. Per tradition each of these events will have a unique name, the main event for March will be called “Reawakening”. This will be followed by Confrontation, Escalation, Mobilization and Decimation. Each of these events are similar in structure to the existing events; hit targets, earn intel, buy new stuff. And finally, the season will culminate in Termination; a phase style event similar to Haunted and Unrequited that will require players to hit targets that were released throughout the season to unlock a boss phase which will feature high value targets for each faction. These make up what we are calling the “core” events.
For this upcoming season Alliance War will be run after Escalation and Termination to complete our 8 week season.
Being that this is a transition to a new tier of content, the season will feature targets intended for both the most powerful Nightfall Coalition tech and the brand new factions as well. With every event in the season a more powerful target will be released for each faction, which will be tuned for the highest Mk level of the newest ships available and feature a significantly higher payout than the preceding targets. This will reward players who have kept up on their upgrades with an easier grind in every event. Players who are not up to date with at least one of the factions will still have targets to hit but it will take more effort to unlock the newest level of tech.
Additionally no targets will drop fragments, everything lives in the store. While this was a popular system in previous tiers it came with a lot of problems as well. Aggressive inflation of both intel rewards for the newest targets but comparable inflation in cost for the newest gear in the store will address many of those major concerns.
One of the most difficult things to achieve with past events has been figuring out a way to encourage players to engage with the most challenging targets but also give you autonomy to choose how to play the events. Some of my attempts have been more successful than others but I’ve never been afraid of trying something different. I think this new event system will really give players a lot of choice in how they approach the events. As always, we are open to feedback and will make adjustments when necessary but this is going to be a lot of change, so let’s try to keep an open mind.
I know there will still be more questions, more information will come with release notes and event briefs via Calvin. We are very excited for this new direction for Vega Conflict. This is just the beginning, there are more surprises to come, so stay tuned.
