Welcome to the front lines, Commander. Building an unstoppable army requires a deep understanding of the assets at your disposal. Before a unit can be deployed in battle, it must be unlocked and built. To truly dominate, they will need to be upgraded and customized.
Choosing the right tool for the job is the difference between victory and defeat. Keep these strategic parameters in mind:
Combat Restrictions: Certain units are specialized for PvP battles, while others are strictly designed for Base Defense.
Terrain Limitations: Ground units cannot assault Island Bases, and Aircraft cannot penetrate Cave Bases. Match your army to the theater of war.
THE FOUR UNIT CLASSES
Every unit belongs to one of four foundational classes, determining where they are trained, upgraded, and stored.
1. Infantry ("Power in Numbers")
Production & Upgrades: Produced in the Barracks; upgraded in the Academy.
Deployment: Stored in general storage by default, can be transferred to the Armory, and assigned to Platoons or defensive Bunkers.
Tactical Role: Infantry can conquer their enemy with their divided firepower. These units form the base of your army.
2. Vehicles (“Strength and Safety”)
Production & Upgrades: Produced in the War Factory; upgraded in the Tech Center.
Deployment: Stored in general storage, manageable via the Armory, and assignable to Platoons.
Tactical Role: Vehicles offer a variety of offensive options to obliterate enemy units. These units make your army stand out.
3. Aircraft (“Death from Above”)
Production & Upgrades: Produced at the Airfield; upgraded in the Aircraft Hangar.
Deployment: Stored exclusively in the Aircraft Hangar, assigned strictly to Air Platoons, though select units can reside in Drone Silos.
Tactical Role: Airborne units are not blocked by terrain, allowing them to move freely over the map. These units let your army shine.
4. Mercenaries
Production & Upgrades: Produced and upgraded in the Mercenary Camp.
Deployment: Deployed almost anywhere on the battlefield instantly via Drop Pods.
Tactical Role: High-impact, single-use assets. Each instance is discarded after the battle ends, making them perfect for turning the tide of a desperate firefight.
THE FIVE UNIT ROLES
Units are further categorized by their role and commanding influence, defining how many you can field and what bonuses they bring to the theater.
1. Faction Units
The core of your standing army. These units belong to one of the four allied factions: Equinox, Rangers, Corpus, or Sentinels. They are divided into progressive tiers of power: Generations I–IV, Series I–IV, and Arcs 1 & 2.
2. Hero Units
Elite individual leaders. You are limited to one of any given Hero per army, and only one Hero total can be brought into battle. Heroes provide massive tactical buffs to the specific Faction units fighting alongside them.
3. Unique Units
The undisputed powerhouses of War Commander. Earned by collecting parts over several weeks, you are limited to one of any given Unique unit. They feature game-changing talents—from multiplying fire rate to spawning automated drones.
Note: Defensive Uniques and Defensive Units are strictly reserved for safeguarding your base, Platoon fights, or holding the line in Holdout style bases.
4. Legendary Units
Overcharged, hyper-lethal variants of the game's most popular units. Legendary units are built strictly for aggressive conquest and are restricted to PvP, Assault Platoons, Bunkers, and your Base Defenders Platoon.
5. Warlords
The apex commanders of the Legendary tier. Just as Heroes inspire Faction units, Warlords provide devastating combat benefits to all Legendary units fighting under their command.
